Norman Long was born in Preston (1976) and studied at Newcastle University and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. Norman’s restless investigation into the technical qualities of colour, surface and light are evident in his work and in the regard with which he is held as an artist and educator.
His paintings feature regularly in London exhibiions such as the BP Portrait Award, New English Art Club and Royal Institute of Oil Painters. He has received the de Laszlo Award from the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and was Artist and Illustrators Artist of the Year in 2013. Norman has held over 16 solo exhibitions in London, Manchester, the USA and elsewhere. He is a member and trustee of the Manchester Academy of Fine Art.
The Norman Long Studio School in Preston was founded in 2012 and Norman’s first book on Oil Painting was published in 2018. He lives in Lytham St Annes with his American wife Lindsey, who is also an artist, along with three trainees aged 8, 5 and 4.
