The Connor Brothers

The Connor Brothers – Contemporary Satirical & Literary Artists

The Connor Brothers are internationally recognised contemporary artists known for their sharp blend of retro imagery, literary references and contemporary satire. Their work draws inspiration from vintage book covers, including Penguin Classics and 1950s pulp fiction, which they reimagine with witty, ironic and often provocative text that challenges assumptions about truth, culture and identity.

Working under the pseudonym The Connor Brothers, British artists Mike Snelle and James Golding initially presented themselves as fictional twins, using myth and storytelling as an extension of their artistic practice. This exploration of truth versus fiction remains central to their work, particularly relevant in an era shaped by media, social narratives and post-truth culture.

Their best-known artworks combine nostalgic figurative imagery with quotes from poets, writers and cultural commentators, creating striking juxtapositions that are humorous, thought-provoking and emotionally resonant. Alongside their artistic practice, The Connor Brothers are active supporters of social causes, including mental health awareness and refugee charities.

At Windermere Fine Art Gallery, we present a curated selection of The Connor Brothers’ artworks and editions. Explore the collection below to discover contemporary statement art that combines intelligence, irony and visual impact for modern interiors.

Mike Snelle and James Golding - who make art under the moniker “the Connor Brothers” - juxtapose pin-up style portraits of women with blocks of solid colour and deadpan snippets of text.

The British artists’ chic, slick paintings and works on paper explore artifice and sensational storytelling, themes that they initially folded into their fictional artist personas: The Connor Brothers at first maintained that they were twin brothers who had escaped from a California cult to start creating art, although they have since shed this fictional backstory.

The Connor Brothers' art has been exhibited in London, Berlin, New York, Los Angeles, and Sydney.
