Midnight Splendour II by Danielle O’Connor Akiyama

Midnight Splendour II is one of three new limited editions from Danielle O’Connor Akiyama’s Steadfast collection — a celebration of enduring love and the journey through life.

The tall, elegant composition draws the eye through a richly layered landscape. Deep midnight blues lighten towards the horizon, while luminous gold, brilliant white and small flashes of colour bring movement and energy to the scene.

A dramatic waterfall emphasises the sense of height, while distant mountains and Danielle’s characteristic markings add depth and intrigue.

Symbolism is central to Danielle’s work. Waterfalls represent refreshment and restoration, while the blue markings found within Steadfast symbolise protection and the red markings represent continuance.

Danielle begins each painting by handwriting a personal poem — known as a “drift” — directly onto the canvas before building layers of colour, texture and imagery over it. The words may eventually become hidden, but remain permanently beneath the finished work.

Midnight Splendour II can be enjoyed as an individual artwork or paired with Midnight Splendour I to create a striking diptych.
