The elegant portrait composition rises through an atmospheric landscape of deep midnight blue. A brilliant white waterfall cuts through the scene, contrasted by warm golden tones and delicate markings that draw the eye into the layers of the work.
As with so much of Danielle’s art, the details have meaning. Waterfalls symbolise refreshment and restoration, pathways represent life’s journey, and the recurring blue and red markings within Steadfast represent protection and continuance.
Danielle’s creative process is equally fascinating. Each painting begins with a personal handwritten poem — or “drift” — written directly onto the canvas. Layers of pigment, texture and imagery are then built over the words, leaving the poetry permanently embedded within the finished artwork.
Danielle describes painting as “silent poetry”, and Midnight Splendour I beautifully captures that combination of visual beauty, emotion and hidden meaning.
Midnight Splendour I can be displayed alone or alongside Midnight Splendour II as a striking diptych.
