‘Modern Muse’ offers a playful interpretation of the most famous face in the history of art. Leonardo’s Mona Lisa finds herself transported into the modern world, appearing against a graffiti-strewn backdrop alongside characters from Keith Haring paintings, while sporting stylish overear headphones and a leather jacket. Gucci, Supreme, tattoos, emojis, and the raised texture of banknote in her hand all add to the sense of displacement, and the vandalised frame adds a touch of the anarchic, but the star of the show is still wearing her familiar smile which is reflected both in the graffiti and the face on her badge.
